BBL After Care-Everything You Need To Know

BBL After Care-Everything You Need To Know

A Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure for removing fat from other body parts such as the abdomen or thighs, and injecting it into the buttocks to add volume and contour the body. Post-op care is as important as the surgical procedure itself. Things like wearing compression garments, and using a BBL pillow are crucial for BBL recovery. Observing swelling, discomfort, and fluid drainage following BBL surgery is common. However, adhering to post-op care instructions is the key to the success of the BBL procedure.

It takes about 6-8 weeks for full recovery from Brazilian butt lift surgery. During recovery, the newly grafted fat cells will settle in your body and incisions will start healing. Losing up to 50% of the transferred fat is normal, which can take up to 3 months after the surgery. To ensure the maximum number of fat cells survival, surgeons must add more than enough new fat cells during the reinjection phase. BBL accessories and supplies should be part of your recovery for BBL aftercare.

Managing Pain and Discomfort

Take the medication prescribed by your doctor to alleviate pain and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling to stay comfortable during the recovery journey. Keep an eye on signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or pus around your incisions, and contact your surgeons immediately to be safe.

Physical Activities

Right after surgery, applying pressure on your new curves is strictly prohibited. During the first few weeks, stay away from activities and get help from your family members or friends to help you in activities that can put pressure on your buttocks.  This will help your body heal properly.

After a few weeks, you can slowly incorporate light activities into your routine. Gentle walking and easy tasks around the house are usually fine, but listen to your body and don't overdo it. Once your surgeon gives you the green signal, get back to your regular activities. This usually happens around 6-8 weeks.

Sitting and Sleeping Positions

Avoid applying pressure on your buttock, it will affect the survival of newly inserted fat cells. Sitting or lying directly on your buttock soon after surgery can result in an irregular or lumpy shape.  It is suggested to sleep on your stomach or sides for fat cell survival. Use a specialized BBL pillow for sitting, this will shift weight away from the buttocks and allow you to sit comfortably. Read HOW TO SLEEP WITH BBL PILLOW-ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Wearing Compression Garments

Surgeons strongly recommend wearing compression garments post-bbl surgery. They apply gentle pressure to your body which helps in reducing swelling and helps your skin and tissues settle into their new contours, ensuring better results. Wear a compression garment most of the day and take it off while taking a shower, during the initial weeks post-surgery.  Make sure your compression garment fits snugly but not too tight and clean it regularly to avoid skin infection.

Nutrition and Hydration

A healthy balanced diet maintains your BBL results by avoiding excessive weight gain or loss. Through this, you can keep your new curves looking their best. Drinking plenty of water after surgery removes toxins from the body, keeps your tissues healthy, and reduces swelling. Good hydration is essential for your overall recovery. It helps your body function properly, supports your immune system, and keeps your skin looking healthy. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Read HOW TO EAT AFTER A BBL

Follow-Up Appointments

You should regularly visit your surgeons to check how well you are recovering. If there are any complications you can discuss them with your doctor, he will immediately spot them and take care of them right away. Even if you are fully recovered occasional visit to your surgeon is a good idea, your surgeon will advise you how to maintain your results and keep your new shape looking great over time. Regular check-ins help ensure that your BBL results last as long as possible.

Potential Risks and How to Mitigate Them

Sometimes fat necrosis happens when transferred fat cells don't get enough blood supply and die leading to lumps in the treated area. There may be asymmetry in the results,  one side might look different from the other due to how the fat was distributed or how it was absorbed by your body. To prevent this follow your surgeon's BBL aftercare instructions like wearing compression garments and using a BBL pillow for sitting. If unusual changes like increased pain, redness, swelling, or lumps happen consult your surgeon.

Psychological and Emotional Support

It's important to have realistic expectations about your BBL results. Understand that it takes time for your body to heal and for the final results to show. It's normal to feel anxious or unsure about your new appearance. Give yourself time to adjust and be patient with the healing process.
